The Insurance Institute for Hwy safety has just released their current ratings for Child Car Booster Seats. Please take the time to review the general information on what a proper fitting booster seat should visually look like on your child and then search through the different rating levels to determine if the booster seat your child is riding in is considered safe or not safe.

Bicycle Rodeo is Saturday!

Travelers Protective Assoc. Post B of Fremont and the Fremont Area Service Club will be sponsoring a bicycle rodeo from 8am to noon Saturday, April 17th, 2010 at the Fremont YMCA.

Bicycle helmets will be given away in a drawing and safe riding brochures will be available. Bicycle licenses may be purchased from the Fremont Police Dept.

...Scott Butler learned a lesson one day - that his role as a parent was to shut up and get out of the way and help his son when he needed help. Scott, an expert on the 40 Developmental Assets and an assistant principal at Beadle Middle School in Millard will speak at this conference along with his son Danny, age 16, about that lesson and other lessons they've learned together. Specifically, they'll look at the role parents play in developing some of their kids' key personal and social traits, known as the 40 Developmental Assets. Research indicates the traits help them thrive and avoid risky behaviors. They will focus on the "I cans" of parenting:

* Involvement
* Consistency
* Awareness
* Nurturing
* and Spirituality

They plan to have a little fun with the topics, using video clips from popular movies to show when parents have handled a situation well or badly. This morning long conference will offer up experts in a wide range of topics, such as bullying, cybersafety and reading strategies. Multiple sessions are scheduled to allow attendees to attend the mini sessions that interest them the most.

Within this site, you will find detailed information about the Settlement, your eligibility for payment, and answers to frequently asked questions. You can file a Claim on this website or request that a paper Claim Form be sent to you.

Beware of Area "Text Message" Scam

Omaha Police have sent out a crime alert after a so-called 'phishing scam' showed up as text messages on cell phones across the metro Omaha area.
Financial institution customers/members are being contacted via Text message saying that their bank cards have been deactivated and that they need to call a phone number in order to reactivate their card. When they call they are being ask for their banking information, which police warn could be used by identity thieves...

CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECKS:
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a free child safety seat check from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Friday. Two dispatchers who are certified as child-restraint installers, will help install seats in vehicles and make sure that seats are properly installed.

Installations will be done by appointment only. To schedule a time, call 727-2700 and press option 1.

It is a good chance for parents, grandparents or expectant parents to ensure that their safety seats are installed properly. The time to find out that your car seat is installed correctly is not after the accident.

Hazardous Children's Clothing Alert!

Click on this picture above to read a PDF document written by the Consumer Product Safety Commission regarding drawstrings on children's upper/lower clothing and then check your children's closets for these types of clothing immediately. This includes older children too, as danger may be greater for them as they are not usually under your direct supervision, as much as babies and toddlers are. This document was printed in 1999, yet just today five recalls were issued for children's clothing items with drawstrings due to the potential for strangulation hazards and even death from wearing these types of garments.
