I think conversation hearts are sweet (no pun intended). They lend themselves to any number of fun Valentine ideas. You can just leave them around where you husband will find them, leave a message for him every night on his pillow, use them in a love letter (just dab a little white glue on the back of the hearts to attach where the words fit into the sentences), or use them to decorate cookies and cakes.
