State Fair Park Spring Plant Sale this weekend!

The 23rd Annual Spring Affair will feature plants, programs and demonstrations to help you learn about updating your garden spaces. This event is free and open to the public.

Saturday, April 25, 2009, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

The 2009 plant sale will be in the Agricultural Hall at State Fair Park. More than 1,000 different varieties of plants will be available. Most are perennials but some are annual herbs and temperennial plants--hardy in warmer regions and grown as annuals in Nebraska. In addition, vendors selling garden art, sculpture, birdhouses and other items will be on hand.
The plants, purchased from Bluebird Nursery in Clarkson, Neb., are selected for their hardiness in Nebraska and for their past popularity. There is no charge to visit the sale. Plants cost between $2.50 and $7 each depending on pot size; some large specimens or rare specialty plants may be priced slightly higher. Credit cards accepted.

Taking Care of the "ME" in mommy!

Growing YOUR Life...

"Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it."
-Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

An excerpt from Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade magazine, April/May 2009
...A song I love by John Mellencamp, "Your Life is Now," always makes me stop and think. In it, he asks some pretty profound questions: "Would you teach your children to tell the truth/Would you take the high road if you could choose?" In his lovely lyrics, he reminds us that as we ponder our own unique paths of personal discovery, we should choose our steps with care: "This is your time here to do what you will do."

Isn't that an amazing idea? That life is such a continuous and unceasing force it surges right along no matter what-whether we want it to or not-and that every thing, person, and event that crosses our paths is an opportunity to become the person we are meant to be.

Today is the day to make your garden grow. There is no time for wishing you were somewhere else or someone else. You are amazing and will become the beautiful bouquet you were intended to be if you simply breathe and bloom where you are planted. You life is now!

Inner Interests:
  • Take an inventory of your life on paper-either professionally, personally, or both. Decide which parts need pruning and what requires more cultivation. Next, brainstorm about what steps are needed to get to the next stage, and envision a road map that will help guide you there.
  • Reward yourself with a blessings book, and count them as you go. In it, write down what makes you grateful and what keeps you humble, and record prayers and meditations to sustain you in tough times.
  • Create a secret sanctuary in your home. Whether outdoors or inside, this is a just-for-you place to daydream, read a good book, or simply sit still, relax, and reflect on life's joys. Fill your space with comforting colors, textures, and keepsakes.
